Under the Sun by DIIV [2016]

DIIV is back with their second LP,  Is the Is Are.  Why not start your weekend right with some lovely swooning guitars and a hard driving bassline?  DIIV will be playing three nights at The Echo, Feb. 22-24.  Sadly, all 3 shows are sold out.

T.I.W.Y.G. by SAVAGES [2016]

The bad news is, the Savages sophomore album, Adore Life, doesn't come out until NEXT year.  The good news is that's less than 2 months away (1/22/16).  In the meantime, rock out to the second song from the album, T(his)I(s)W(hat)Y(ou)G(et).  Haven't seen Savages live yet?  GO AS SOON AS THEY COME TO TOWN!

Return to the Moon (Political Song for Didi Bloome to Sing, with Crescendo) by EL VY [2015]

It's always exciting when 2 artists you like decide to work together so I was very happy to find out that The National's Matt Berninger has a new record coming out with Menomena's Brent Knopf (also of Ramona Falls).  The duo, who became friends as tourmates in the early 2000s, have come together to form EL VY (rhymes with 'swell guy').  Enjoy the fun, poppy title track off the upcoming LP, Return to the Moon, out Oct. 30 and see the guys at the Troubadour on Saturday November 7th (tickets on sale Friday 8/7 // more live dates).

For more from Brent, check out my all time favorite La Blogothèque Take Away video - Wet and Rusting by Menomena (2007)

And why do we love Matt?  Because Matt loves Driftwood.

Laced by DMA'S [2015]

With a sound reminiscent of classic 90's Britpop, you might be surprised to hear that DMA's hails from Sydney, Australia. Their self-titled EP was released earlier this year and has been gathering momentum over the summer. Catch them live (and free) this Thursday at the Santa Monica Pier as part of the summer Twilight Concerts. They share a bill with Cut Copy's Ben Browning on a night celebrating Australia Rocks The Pier!

Keep Me by PESKY [2015]

There are young artists, and then there are YOUNG artists. The seven members of newcomer Pesky from northwest England have not even reached the age of 13(!!!), yet the indie pop (or their more accurately self-described genre - "FUN!") sounds of their debut single "Keep Me" hint at songwriting and melody that bands more than twice their age wish they could achieve. At first I was skeptical and thought this might be a gimmick, but then I heard an actual interview with them on BBC Radio (they've never heard of Coldplay!). Mind blown. "Keep Me" is simple and catchy, and it's summer in your ears. Pesky's debut EP Smells Like Tween Spirit is out tomorrow. Given their newness/youth, I'm guessing we won't be seeing any live Pesky shows anytime soon, let alone here in LA, but if they do we'll be the first to let you know!
