There's an indiepop resurgence of sorts going on right now (witnessed firsthand with my recent trip to NYC Popfest), and Philadelphia's Mercury Girls are an exciting new entry to the scene. With what appears to be only two demos released so far, "Golden" is a promising, shimmery, melodic taste of what's hopefully to come. If I could be anywhere on Friday night, it would be at Cake Shop in NYC to see a stacked bill featuring Mercury Girls, Diet Cig, Heathers, and Gingerlys. A couple of our LA-based Super Music Friends will be in town to catch the show (lucky!) and can hopefully convince Mercury Girls to come to LA in the near future. We'll keep you posted when/if they do!

Under A Rock by WAXAHATCHEE [2015]
Named after a lake not far from her parents' home in Alabama, Waxahatchee is the name of songwriter Katie Crutchfield's band and was also one of my favorite revelations at Coachella last year. Her third album, Ivy Tripp, is finally set for release on April 7, but you can stream it now via NPR before then. She'll be here in LA at the Roxy on April 28.

Better Man by LEON BRIDGES [2015]
Upon listening to a Leon Bridges track, it would be easy to assume you were listening to a soul record straight from the 50's or 60's. But you're not. He's a new singer/songwriter from Fort Worth, Texas blending southern soul and gospel, and his throwback sound has a bright future. Tickets go on sale today at noon for an intimate show next week at the Troubadour on March 24, and they'll be going fast.

Giant Peach by WOLF ALICE [2015]
London's Wolf Alice is back with "Giant Peach", their rocking first single from their forthcoming debut album, My Love Is Cool, set for release on June 22nd. Grittier than their more "rocky pop" tunes from their earlier EPs, "Giant Peach" should be a live highlight when they take the stage Saturday night for a sold out show at the Bootleg in LA. If you missed out on tickets, that's ok - they've got another show in LA on May 18 at the Roxy. But don't snooze on them!

California Nights by BEST COAST [2015]
The sentiment and atmosphere of the title track off Best Coast's upcoming third LP (due out May 4th) definitely hits home this week. With the temperature in LA rising a bit early this "Winter", the silver lining to a hot day is definitely the amazing California Nights. Something Bethany Cosentino knows and descsribes perfectly...

Web by THEE OH SEES [2015]
In anticipation of the upcoming April 19th release of their 6th LP, Mutilator Defeated At Last, Thee Oh Sees give us the pscyhodelic opening track, "Web". The band play this Wednesday March 12 at Human Resources in Chinatown (Los Angeles) before heading off to Austin for SxSW.
