Dry the Rain by THE BETA BAND [1998]

Driftwood is taking this Memorial Day to kick of MEMORIAL WEEK...our week long tribute to our favorite bands that cease to exist.  For the next seven days, Tony and I will take turns picking a favorite track from bitterly broken up bands...singers that are six feet under...and bands that just couldn't hack it.  To any band who's wikipedia descripition starts with a "was" and not an "is", we say thank you.  Kicking things off...

Dry the Rain
by The Beta Band [official - Last.FM - iTunes]

The Beta Band formed in Edinburgh, Scotland 15 years ago and gave us 3 albums and 3 EPs (not to mention the phenomenal The Three E.P.'s compilation where you can find this track) before splitting up in 2004.  My favorite things about this band besides their music?  I got to see them open for Radiohead at the Hollywood Bowl back in 2001.  They named their second album Hot Shots II.  Their final album, Heroes to Zeroes, was mixed by famed Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich.  And last but not least, the aforementioned Three E.P.'s was part of one of my favorite movies of all time, Nick Hornby's High Fidelity (with John Cusack aka, Jim from Championship Vinyl!).
