You Were Never There by DIEGO GARCIA [2011]

You Were Never There by Diego Garcia
[official - Spotify - iTunes]

This post has been long overdue.  Another song discovered while listening to Morning Becomes Eclectic, You Were Never There, and the album as a whole, has been on heavy rotation on my headphones for a few months now.  Diego, the Argentine-American former frontman of the indie/garage rock band Elefant, has taken on a more latin-infused, muy romantico genre that definitely captures your ear when you first hear it.  The album Laura, written completely about the woman who is now his wife, was intentionally made to have a latin feel despite being sung in English.  Sounds simple or almost cheesy on paper, but Diego pulls it off flawlessly alongside some beautiful guitar playing by Jorge Elbrecht.  I highly recommend the full LP or trying to catch him live.  Diego and friends put on a great show at on of our favorite venues, Largo, playing most of the tracks off Laura as well as a cover of The Kinks "Strange Effect".
