The Rains of May by THE RAVEONETTES [2014]

Driftwood favorites, The Raveonettes, dropped a brand new album (surprise!), Pe'ahi, yesterday on a mostly unsuspecting public (although we had known it was coming thanks to The Raves' Sharin Foo when we interviewed her last year). Are there any bands more prolific and consistent than The Raveonettes these days? Pe'ahi is fantastic, continuing The Raveonettes' trademark retro fuzzed-out reverb sound but elevating it with more breakbeats, layered guitars and vocals, and rhythmic changes. The melodies and tunes are still there, but it's a sonic leap forward. 'The Rains of May' is "a song for the heartbroken who never prevailed but always looked for times past and always sought nostalgia in the most darkened of settings" according to the band's Sune Rose Wagner. Catch them with us on September 24 when they play the El Rey in LA.

Lost Boys And Girls Club by DUM DUM GIRLS [2014]

Let us continue to celebrate what is spontaneously becoming 'Female Foursomes from Los Angeles week' on Driftwood.  Following last week's Warpaint release, yesterday brought us Too True, the third and most recent album from Dum Dum Girls.  With production work by the very talented Sune Rose Wagner of The Raveonettes, there was no doubt that Team Driftwood was going to enjoy this one.  And apologies for the late notice, but Dee Dee and the girls performed last night at The Echo.  I guess one can always live vicariously through last night's Instagrams right?

Driftwood Interview with SHARIN FOO of THE RAVEONETTES [2013]

We recently chatted with Sharin Foo of The Raveonettes about her new Danish art and design store, HURRA! The Venice, California pop-up will be open through January 2014 with a permanent location somewhere in Los Angeles to follow soon after. She also provided a glimpse into the future of The Raveonettes and what 2014 has in store. Watch and rave on!

Into The Night by THE RAVEONETTES [2012]

Into The Night by The Raveonettes
[official - Spotify - iTunes]

Our favorite Danish duo is back with a new EP, Into The Night, released on April 24. The title track is yet another fantastic song from Sharin Foo (and that other guy) who keep churning out quality tunes. Their trademark 50's/60's melodic rock sound with their vocal harmonies and Jesus and Mary Chain fuzz is as present as ever. Some things are better left unchanged.

Ignite by THE RAVEONETTES [2011]

Ignite
by The Raveonettes [official - facebook - iTunes]

Sharin Foo is a rock goddess. As the better half of the Danish duo, The Raveonettes, this six-foot, half-Danish, half-Chinese siren rocks with style and cool. Team Driftwood will be catching The Raveonettes tonight at the Troubadour, and you'll find us front and slightly-right-of-center in prime position to be captivated once again by one of our favorite rock goddesses. Rave on.

The Raveonettes [official - facebook - iTunes]

That's two days out of two days this week that I get good new music news before 8am!  Radiohead's new King of Limbs album announcement yesterday...and a new track from The Raveonettes today.  I guess it does pay to wake up early.  Early bird gets the good music.  The full album, Raven in the Grave, will be out April 5th on Vice Records.  Tickets for their 2 night stand at the Troubadour go onsale this Thursday.
