Radiohead's Pablo Honey Turns 20

20 years ago last Friday, Radiohead gave the world their debut album, Pablo Honey (Yes, the one with Creep on it).   While the pre-Nigel Godrich-era album may not be one of my favorites, it definitely holds its own.  Fun facts I just learned about the album:  it was named after a Jerky Boys bit, the producers first thought Creep was a cover (a misunderstanding), and the band called Jonny Greenwood's Creep guitar slash sound, "The Noise."  And to top it off, the producers pretty much describe my dream job...topless Radiohead and all:

"I remember having a lot of fun with them. The studio was kind of an old converted school, and we'd be watching movies, staying up late, drinking warm ale," Kolderie said. "There weren't really weren't any horrible sex and drugs stories ... I remember it was rainy and cold all the time, but one day, about 1 p.m., the sun came out and it was a blazing, glorious sun, and everyone just ran outside and took their shirts off and sat in the sun. Now, looking back on it, it's hilarious — Radiohead without their shirts — but at the time, it was just fun."  - Paul Q. Kolderie and Sean Slade (MTV)

Radiohead kicked off their 2012 tour in Miami on Monday night and among the 24 song setlist were 2 new songs.  We hope to hear more new stuff (and lots of OK Computer) as the tour winds across the country...especially during the April date at the Santa Barbara Bowl.  :)  Happy Leap Year Day everyone!

Post King of Limbs, most of us wanted more Radiohead...and bit by bit, we've gotten some additional tracks.  The guys have been silent since releasing 2 more songs on Record Store Day but in anticipation of their Live from the Basement broadcast on July 1st, we awake (in the states) to this Youtube treat.  And don't be alarmed, Phil does not have an evil twin...it's actually Clive Deamer of Portishead.  Gets really good toward the end.  Glad to see Jonny is still alive.

Oh happy day!  Always a good time of the year when Radiohead puts out new music.  TKOL is definitely not going to please everyone but it keeps this superfan happy.  Long review short, this album is pretty much all Thom and is based in his continuing love of Dubstep and Flying Lotus - not bad things, just not what some fans want/expect.  TKOL is prety much an extension of The Eraser...or if The Gloaming were an EP.  (Ah, how I love The Gloaming).  Fear not....rumors are floating around that this small 8 track LP may in fact only be part 1 of 2.  We can only hope.  

Almost forgot!  I've also included the live/demo version of Separator from Thom's solo gig in Cambridge almost a year ago this week.  Always fun to hear the early, acoustic versions next to their Nigel Godrich curated counterparts.  For more acoustic versions of TKOL, check out my video of Lotus Flower.
